The Los Angeles Angels emphatically ended their seven-game losing streak on Wednesday night, overwhelming the Texas Rangers 13-1 at Globe Life Field in Arlington behind a career-best performance from Jo Adell and the long-awaited return of Mike Trout.
Adell delivered one of the finest games of his career, blasting two home runs and driving in a personal-best five runs as the Angels erupted for 15 hits in a dominant all-around performance. His latest multi-homer effort marked the 10th of his major league career and provided the offensive spark Los Angeles desperately needed after a difficult stretch.
Vaughn Grissom also enjoyed a standout night, collecting four hits while driving in four runs to lead an Angels lineup that consistently put pressure on Texas pitching. Zach Neto reached base repeatedly, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored, while Denzer Guzman contributed two hits, including a double. Jose Siri added two hits and an RBI, and Josh Lowe crossed the plate twice as nearly every Angels starter made an impact.
The game also featured the successful return of veteran superstar Mike Trout, who was activated after missing time with a right hamstring injury suffered on June 18. Serving as the designated hitter, Trout went 1-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. His lone hit was a towering 438-foot two-run homer to left field in the eighth inning, capping the Angels’ offensive showcase on the same day he celebrated the 15th anniversary of his major league debut.
Los Angeles wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Neto opened the game with a leadoff double into the left-field corner before Grissom lined a run-scoring single to center field one out later, giving the Angels an early 1-0 advantage.
The visitors increased their lead in the fourth inning when Adell launched a two-run opposite-field home run to right field after Grissom reached base with a single, extending the margin to 3-0.
The Angels then delivered the decisive blow in the fifth inning. Adell crushed a towering 433-foot three-run homer to left-center field as part of a four-run frame that stretched the lead to 7-0 and effectively put the contest out of reach.
Grissom continued his remarkable night in the sixth inning with a two-run double that pushed the advantage to 9-0 before Trout’s eighth-inning blast added two more runs and highlighted a commanding offensive performance.
While the Angels’ hitters stole the spotlight, the pitching staff was equally impressive. Starter Walbert Urena limited Texas to just one hit before turning the game over to the bullpen. Rookie reliever Samy Natera Jr. earned the first victory of his major league career, retiring all six batters he faced over two flawless innings while striking out five in a dominant relief appearance.
Texas managed only three hits throughout the game, with Kyle Higashioka providing the lone offensive highlight by hitting a solo home run. Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore struggled against the relentless Angels lineup, surrendering seven runs on nine hits across five innings. Despite recording seven strikeouts, he fell to 5-8 on the season after being consistently punished by Los Angeles’ timely hitting.
The convincing victory not only snapped the Angels’ seven-game skid but also provided a significant confidence boost as the club received an immediate lift from Trout’s return and a spectacular offensive display led by Adell and Grissom. For the Rangers, the lopsided defeat underscored another frustrating night at the plate as they were held to just three hits in front of their home fans.
