UPDATE: Arkansas Stuns Auburn Behind Helfrick’s 446-Foot Homer

Ryder Helfrick delivered a clutch performance on Saturday night as the Arkansas Razorbacks edged Auburn 2-1 in a tightly contested SEC Tournament semifinal, securing their place in the championship game against top-seeded Georgia.

The No. 7 seed Razorbacks continue their impressive postseason run in Hoover, Alabama, surviving a rain-delayed thriller against No. 6 Auburn to advance to Sunday’s title showdown. Helfrick proved to be the decisive factor, breaking a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning with a towering 446-foot solo home run to left field that ultimately sealed the victory for Arkansas.

It was a classic pitcher’s duel, with both teams leaning heavily on their bullpens in a game where every run mattered. Head coach Dave Van Horn deployed a total of four pitchers in the win, trusting his staff to keep Auburn’s offense in check after an early challenge.

Starter Cooper Dossett opened the game for Arkansas, working two innings and surrendering the Tigers’ only run in the second inning. From there, the Razorbacks’ bullpen took control. James DeCremer and Colin Fisher combined for 2.2 scoreless innings to stabilize the game and keep Arkansas within striking distance.

The turning point came when Ethan McElvain entered the game in the fifth inning. McElvain was outstanding in long relief, ultimately earning the win after tossing 4.1 shutout innings. He allowed just two hits, struck out six batters, and did not issue a single walk, completely shutting down Auburn’s offense in the late stages.

Helfrick’s late-game heroics were the difference, giving Arkansas just enough offense to escape with the narrow 2-1 win. The Razorbacks’ pitching staff, however, deserves equal credit for continuing to dominate throughout the tournament.

Arkansas has now compiled an impressive SEC Tournament résumé, knocking off a series of strong opponents on their path to the final. The Razorbacks opened with an 8-4 win over No. 10 seed Tennessee, followed by a dominant 8-1 victory over No. 2 seed Texas, before surviving Auburn in the semifinals.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 seed Georgia earned a double bye and advanced to the championship game with wins over Mississippi State (5-3) and Florida (8-7), setting up a high-stakes finale between two of the tournament’s most resilient teams.

With momentum, pitching depth, and timely power all working in their favor, Arkansas now turns its attention to Sunday’s championship game, where they will look to complete their remarkable run with an SEC Tournament title.
