Auburn football continues to strengthen its future recruiting class with a major defensive back commitment, landing a highly sought-after 4-star prospect in Chance Gilbert, a top-100 national recruit in the Class of 2027.

Gilbert’s pledge marks Auburn’s fourth top-100 addition in the current cycle and further boosts a rapidly rising recruiting class that now ranks 15th nationally. Among Auburn’s highest-rated commits, Gilbert sits behind standout 4-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook and linebacker Isaac McNeil, highlighting the program’s balanced push across key positions.
Hailing from Sharpsburg, Georgia, and playing for East Coweta High School, Gilbert brings an impressive combination of size, athleticism, and speed. At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, he is known for his elite mobility, which is also reflected in his track and field background. On the field during his sophomore season, he recorded 44 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble—showcasing his ability to impact both pass coverage and run support.
Gilbert’s recruitment was highly competitive, with offers from several of college football’s premier programs, including Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Oregon. Despite heavy national interest, he ultimately chose Auburn, signaling strong confidence in head coach Alex Golesh’s long-term vision for the program.
With Gilbert’s commitment, Auburn now has three defensive backs in its 2027 recruiting class, joining earlier pledges Aidyn Wiggins and Nash Johnson III. His arrival adds another layer of talent to a secondary group that is shaping up to be one of the program’s focal points moving forward.
Ranked as the No. 56 overall player nationally by 247Sports Composite rankings, Gilbert is also listed as the No. 8 safety in the country and one of the top eight prospects in the state of Georgia. His decision further strengthens Auburn’s momentum on the recruiting trail as the Tigers continue building one of their most promising classes in recent years.
