The Birmingham, Alabama native announced his decision after months of intense recruiting attention from schools across the country. Evans ultimately chose the Tigers over a finalist group that included South Carolina, Tennessee, and Miami, giving Auburn another significant addition to its rapidly growing recruiting class.

While Auburn had long been viewed as the favorite to land the in-state standout, South Carolina emerged as a serious contender during the final stages of the recruitment process. The Gamecocks worked aggressively to close the gap, hosting Evans for a visit to Columbia in June and making him one of their top defensive priorities.

Following that visit, Evans spoke highly of the South Carolina coaching staff and their efforts throughout his recruitment. He emphasized the strong relationship the program had built with him over time and appreciated the attention and importance the staff placed on securing his commitment. Those comments fueled optimism among Gamecock fans that Shane Beamer’s program might be able to pull off a late recruiting upset.

Ultimately, however, Auburn’s home-state advantage proved difficult to overcome.

Recruiting analysts consistently projected Evans toward the Tigers, with multiple prediction models heavily favoring Auburn throughout the process. The talented defender frequently spoke about his comfort level with the program and described the atmosphere around Auburn as feeling like home, a factor that appeared to play a major role in his final decision.

Evans enters the college ranks as one of the more highly regarded defensive prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. According to recruiting rankings, he is considered one of Alabama’s top high school players and ranks among the better defensive end prospects nationally. His combination of size, athleticism, and pass-rushing potential made him a priority target for numerous Power Four programs.

During his recruitment, Evans took official and unofficial visits to several schools, including Tennessee, Miami, Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina. Each program made a strong push, but Auburn successfully maintained its lead and closed the deal when it mattered most.

Although missing out on Evans is a disappointment for South Carolina, the Gamecocks still have reason for optimism on the recruiting trail. The program remains heavily involved with several elite prospects and has recently gained momentum in the pursuit of five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. Recruiting insiders have begun shifting projections in South Carolina’s favor, suggesting the Gamecocks could soon land one of the most coveted defensive backs in the nation.

For Auburn, Evans’ commitment represents another important recruiting victory and further strengthens a class that is quickly gaining national attention. His pledge helps boost the Tigers’ standing among the country’s top recruiting groups and provides another building block for head coach Alex Golesh as he continues assembling talent for the future.

While South Carolina will now need to redirect its efforts toward other defensive-end targets, Auburn can celebrate winning one of the region’s most competitive recruiting battles and keeping a top Alabama prospect close to home.
