As MLB teams prepare for Spring Training, the Atlanta Braves have enjoyed a relatively smooth offseason, successfully re-signing key players while addressing roster needs. Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos acknowledges the team still seeks to bolster its starting rotation, ideally with a pitcher who brings both skill and playoff experience.
“We’ve been exploring options for the rotation, whether via trade or free agency. Our goal is to add someone impactful, capable of starting a playoff game,” Anthopoulos said.
The Braves’ offseason began with the acquisition of veteran outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, a move that set a positive tone for their front office. Yastrzemski, 35, agreed to a two-year, $23 million deal with a 2028 club option, potentially making the contract worth $26 million over three seasons. Last year, he batted .233 with 17 home runs and 46 RBIs across 146 games with San Francisco and Kansas City, providing Atlanta with a reliable everyday outfielder.
However, Atlanta may not be finished strengthening its outfield. Braves reporter Grant McAuley suggests the team could pursue former MVP and 5-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen as additional depth. McAuley notes that McCutchen could serve as a veteran presence while giving regular starters occasional rest.

While McCutchen is approaching the end of his career, joining the Braves would give him a genuine shot at reaching the World Series. Though he might not pursue such a move himself, a deal could allow him to finish his career in Atlanta while contributing leadership and experience to the clubhouse.
