Joe Buck made a lighthearted jab at Ron Darling during ESPN’s broadcast of the New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers game on Jackie Robinson Day, playfully accusing the former pitcher of sounding “bitter” on air.
Early in the game, Darling pointed out how the Dodgers addressed key offseason needs by signing top talent, including outfielder Kyle Tucker and former Mets closer Edwin Díaz. He added a tongue-in-cheek remark suggesting he might sound a bit bitter about it.
Buck quickly jumped in with a teasing response, telling Darling, “You sound bitter!” a comment that drew laughter and kept the tone casual in the booth. Darling brushed it off, noting that the Mets have also been successful in landing their targets in recent years.
The exchange added a slightly awkward but humorous moment to the broadcast, especially as Buck who has often faced criticism over perceived bias during his career flipped the narrative by jokingly calling out Darling.
