The Kansas State Wildcats baseball program has once again demonstrated that success extends beyond the baseball diamond. For the second consecutive season, the Wildcats have been recognized for their outstanding academic performance, earning the prestigious American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025-26 academic year.
The national honor highlights teams that excel both athletically and academically. Established in 2016, the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award is presented annually to high school and collegiate baseball programs coached by ABCA members that achieve a cumulative team grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale during the academic year.
This year, more than 500 college baseball programs and 320 high school teams across the country met the academic benchmark, reflecting the growing emphasis on balancing athletic achievement with classroom success.
Kansas State stood out among those recipients, earning the recognition for the third time in program history. The Wildcats previously received the award during the 2016-17 academic year before capturing the honor again in 2025-26 and now repeating the achievement for a second straight season.
The Wildcats finished the academic year with an impressive 3.31 cumulative team GPA, a mark that reflected the dedication and discipline of the entire roster. Even more impressive, the program set a new school record by posting a 3.31 GPA during the spring semester, the highest spring academic performance in team history.
Kansas State was also one of nine Big 12 Conference schools to receive the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, underscoring the conference’s commitment to academic achievement alongside athletic competition.
The ABCA has a long-standing tradition of celebrating excellence within college baseball. Founded in 1949, its ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are recognized as the oldest All-America selections in the sport. Beyond academic honors, the organization also presents All-Region Awards, Regional and National Coach of the Year honors, Hall of Fame inductions, and the prestigious Ethics in Coaching Award, among numerous other recognitions.
The academic success comes during another productive period for the Wildcats on the field under head coach Pete Hughes, who recently completed his eighth season leading the program.
Kansas State concluded the 2026 baseball season with a 30-27 overall record, marking the program’s fourth consecutive 30-win season. That accomplishment matches the longest streak of 30-win campaigns in school history and represents the Wildcats’ best sustained run since recording four straight 30-win seasons from 1988 through 1991.
By combining consistent success in the classroom with continued competitiveness on the field, Kansas State continues to build a well-rounded baseball program that reflects the university’s commitment to excellence in every aspect of the student-athlete experience.
