According to Tristan Pharis, Morton recently joined a growing list of Kentucky players putting in offseason work, but what makes his training session stand out is the location and company. Rather than working out in traditional basketball hubs like California or Texas, Morton has stayed close to home, training just outside Lexington alongside Hawkins, a well-respected former Kentucky guard.

Hawkins shared moments from the workout on social media, posting photos of the two working in the gym together with the caption, “Trust the work,” highlighting the mutual commitment to development as the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season.

Morton’s decision to train with Hawkins has drawn attention from fans, not only because of Hawkins’ popularity among Kentucky supporters, but also because of the symbolic connection between two players from different eras of the program. Hawkins, who grew up in Kentucky dreaming of playing for the Wildcats, eventually earned a scholarship after a strong high school career and went on to spend four seasons at the school. Although his early years were limited in playing time, he carved out a meaningful role as a senior in the 2016–17 season, earning a spot on the SEC All-Tournament team and becoming a respected veteran presence off the bench.

While Morton and Hawkins have different playing styles and backgrounds, there is growing speculation that Morton could fill a similar role for Kentucky this season—providing energy, stability, and depth as a reliable contributor off the bench.

The connection between the two players also reflects a broader tradition within the Kentucky basketball program, where former and current Wildcats often cross paths and share mentorship experiences that strengthen the team culture.

With offseason workouts underway and players expected to begin arriving on campus in early June, Morton’s early commitment to training has only increased anticipation for what he might bring to the Wildcats in the upcoming campaign.
