The Philadelphia Phillies may have witnessed one of the most dominant pitching stretches in recent Major League Baseball history, as left-hander Cristopher Sánchez delivered a flawless month of May that ultimately earned him National League Pitcher of the Month honors.
Sánchez’s performance was so overpowering that he did not allow a single earned run throughout the entire month, building a scoreless streak that stretched deep into 40-plus innings and firmly established him as one of the most unhittable starters in baseball during that span.
Despite strong competition from Milwaukee Brewers standout Jacob Misiorowski, Sánchez was officially named the NL Pitcher of the Month, cementing a remarkable run that stood out even in a league filled with elite pitching performances.
The MLB announcement highlighted just how dominant both pitchers were. Sánchez finished May with a 4–0 record, a 0.00 ERA, 39 innings pitched, and 45 strikeouts, showcasing both consistency and elite strikeout ability across multiple starts.
His month included a series of standout outings: he opened with a commanding eight-inning performance against the Athletics, followed by seven strong innings against the Colorado Rockies. He then delivered one of the defining moments of his season with a complete-game shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates, striking out 13 batters in a masterclass performance. He closed the month with two more dominant starts, continuing to suppress opposing offenses with ease.
Across the stretch, Sánchez demonstrated exceptional command, stamina, and efficiency, routinely working deep into games while maintaining elite-level control over opposing lineups. His dominance also extended into a broader scoreless streak that reached 44.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run, further emphasizing the historic nature of his run.
Misiorowski, however, also made a strong case for the award. The Brewers right-hander logged 38.1 innings with a microscopic 0.23 ERA and recorded 57 strikeouts, but ultimately fell just short in what became one of the most competitive Pitcher of the Month races in recent memory.
Even with Misiorowski’s impressive numbers, Sánchez’s perfect ERA and extended scoreless dominance gave him the edge, earning him one of the most prestigious monthly honors in baseball and reinforcing his status as a cornerstone of the Phillies’ rotation.
