Breaking News: Rangers Fall Short 3–2 Against Panthers in Jonathan Quick’s Farewell Appearance

The New York Rangers fell 3–2 to the Florida Panthers on Monday night, spoiling the final NHL appearance of veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick.

NHL: New York Rangers at Florida Panthers

Playing his last game after an 18-year career, the 40-year-old conceded the decisive goal late in the third period, as Florida secured the win at Amerant Bank Arena. Quick, who revealed earlier in the day that he will retire at the end of the season, finishes with 410 career victories among the highest totals in league history and the most by a U.S.-born goalie.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion made 14 saves in his 829th career game but was outperformed by Florida netminder Daniil Tarasov, who stopped 24 shots, including a strong showing in the final period. Cole Reinhardt scored twice for the Panthers, including the late winner.

Florida jumped ahead early with two first-period goals, but the Rangers responded with strikes from Matthew Robertson and Gabe Perreault to level the score at 2–2 heading into the third.

New York dominated much of the final period, heavily outshooting Florida, but Tarasov delivered key saves to keep the game tied. The breakthrough came with under two minutes remaining, when Reinhardt fired home a one-timer to seal the victory.

Despite a late push, including pulling Quick for an extra attacker, the Rangers could not find an equalizer. After the final buzzer, Quick briefly left the ice before returning to receive a show of respect from Panthers players, led by Sergei Bobrovsky.

The loss was especially disappointing for New York, which struggled to overcome a depleted Florida lineup missing several star players. While the Rangers showed urgency late, it was not enough to deliver a winning send-off for their veteran goaltender.

Still, the game highlighted emerging young talent for New York, with contributions from Perreault and Robertson signaling a potential shift toward the team’s future even as Quick’s storied career came to a close.
