Wyatt Langford’s first home run of the 2026 season came with an unfortunate setback, as the Texas Rangers outfielder left Friday’s 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers due to right quad tightness.
Langford, who had been struggling early in the season with a .160 batting average and 13 strikeouts through 12 games, broke through in the fifth inning when he sent a Tyler Glasnow curveball into the left-field bullpen for a 365-foot solo home run. However, the excitement was quickly overshadowed as he appeared to experience discomfort while rounding the bases.
The 24-year-old briefly returned to the field after having his leg wrapped in the dugout, but he was ultimately removed from the game in the sixth inning for precautionary reasons. He later noted that the tightness began during his swing and worsened as he started running, though he initially believed it was not serious.
Langford is scheduled to undergo imaging to determine the severity of the issue, and there is hope within the organization that the injury is minor enough to avoid a stint on the injured list. He expressed optimism that he could even return as soon as the series finale, depending on the results.
Despite the injury concern, Langford acknowledged the milestone of hitting his first home run of the season, though he admitted he was unable to fully enjoy the moment due to the discomfort. The Rangers remain cautious given his previous injury history, but he is viewed as a key piece of their lineup moving forward in 2026.
