- Despite losing Caitlin Clark to injury for the remainder of the season, the Indiana Fever have secured a return to the WNBA playoffs. Clark, who was ruled out for the rest of the season—including the postseason—following a serious right groin injury, had appeared in only 13 games this year before her injury sidelined her.
The Fever sealed their postseason spot after a convincing 94–65 win over the Washington Mystics, locking in at least the No. 7 seed. With that win, Indiana not only advanced to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2015–16, but also posted a winning regular season—its first since 2015.
Earlier in the season, expectations for the Fever were high, especially with Clark’s breakout rookie year behind her and the organization adding experienced players and overhauling its staff—including bringing in new front office leadership and a new head coach, Stephanie White. Even so, several key players were lost to season-ending injuries, and one veteran, DeWanna Bonner, left midseason.
Still, the team showed resilience. When Clark played, the Fever performed very strongly—she averaged 16.5 points, about 8.8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Without her on the court, the team’s performance dipped, but it was steady enough to maintain playoff contention.
Off the court, fan support remained strong. Attendance stayed high both at home and on the road, significantly above what it had been in years prior to Clark’s arrival. While viewership numbers dropped somewhat in games she didn’t play, the Fever still remained one of the more-watched teams in the league.significantly
In sum, despite major setbacks and being without their star guard, the Indiana Fever have nonetheless delivered a successful regular season, clinching a playoff berth and exceeding expectations under challenging .
