Despite the underwhelming finish, a few standout performances offered reasons for optimism and helped soften the disappointment of a difficult year.
Mika Zibanejad Leads the Way With MVP-Caliber Production
One of the clearest positives came from veteran center Mika Zibanejad, who once again established himself as the team’s most reliable offensive force. In what could be considered a team MVP season, Zibanejad delivered elite production while setting a new franchise benchmark for power-play goals.
He surpassed notable franchise names, including longtime teammate Chris Kreider and Rangers legend Camille Henry, in that category, further cementing his place in team history. Over the course of 81 games, he recorded 34 goals and 44 assists for a total of 78 points, consistently driving offense even during stretches when the team struggled to find rhythm.
Gabe Perreault Shows Promising Rookie Impact
Another encouraging storyline came from young forward Gabe Perreault, who transitioned into a more consistent NHL role during the season. After a brief introduction in the previous year, this campaign marked his first extended opportunity to contribute at the professional level.
Perreault responded well to increased responsibility, producing 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points across 49 games. His ability to generate offense in key moments, including three game-winning goals, reinforced the organization’s belief that he can develop into a top-six forward in the near future and become a core piece of the team’s long-term plans.
Adam Fox Remains the Defensive Anchor Despite Injuries
On the blue line, defenseman Adam Fox continued to provide stability and elite-level production even while dealing with time missed due to injury. Despite his absence from parts of the season, Fox still managed to reach the 50-point mark, underscoring his importance to the Rangers’ overall structure.
However, defensive pairings remained a concern, particularly the experiment involving Fox alongside Vladislav Gavrikov, which failed to produce the desired balance on the back end. The lack of chemistry highlighted ongoing issues with defensive depth and may influence the team’s offseason strategy, including a possible focus on selecting a high-impact defenseman in the upcoming draft.

While the season did not meet expectations, these individual performances provided a foundation for optimism. With established leaders like Zibanejad, emerging talent like Perreault, and elite contributors such as Fox, the Rangers still possess the core pieces needed to rebound—provided the supporting structure around them improves moving forward.
