Jim Head, a prominent figure in NHRA drag racing, has been active in the sport for over four decades, transitioning from a driver in Top Fuel and Funny Car categories to a team owner and tuner. In 2025, he was honored with induction into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport.
For the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Head’s team welcomed Spencer Hyde, a 33-year-old racer from Ontario, Canada, as the new driver for the Ford Mustang Funny Car. Hyde brings experience from various racing categories, including Top Fuel and Pro Modified, and expressed enthusiasm about joining Jim Head Racing. He stated, “When I got the call from Jim Head, honestly it was humbling to even be considered for this opportunity.”
Jim Head’s son, Chad Head, played a pivotal role in recommending Hyde for the position, highlighting Hyde’s passion and levelheaded approach to drag racing. Jim Head commented on the new addition, saying, “He has come up through the racing ranks and I like that he is a levelheaded guy who has a passion for drag racing.”
Hyde is set to compete in the season-opening NHRA Gatornationals, scheduled for March 6-9, 2025, at Gainesville Raceway, marking the beginning of an exciting season for Jim Head Racing.
