GOOD NEWS: Rangers Set Pitching Rotation for Key Series Against Tigers

The Texas Rangers have finalized their pitching rotation for an upcoming three-game road series against the Detroit Tigers, which begins Friday as part of a longer six-game trip.

Texas enters the series with a 15–16 record after a disappointing 4–5 homestand that dropped them below the .500 mark again. Despite that, they remain within striking distance in the AL West, trailing the Oakland Athletics by just 1.5 games. One encouraging sign for the Rangers is their stronger offensive production away from home, something they hope continues during this road swing, which will wrap up against the New York Yankees.

For the Detroit series, Texas will rely on a trio of young arms: MacKenzie Gore, Kumar Rocker, and Jack Leiter.

Gore is scheduled to take the mound in Friday’s opener. The left-hander holds a 2–2 record with a 4.35 ERA through six starts. While he has shown flashes of dominance such as his strong outing against the Seattle Mariners earlier in April he has struggled to pitch deep into games, often seeing his pitch count rise quickly. In his most recent appearance against the Athletics, he allowed three earned runs over five innings while striking out seven. Opposing him will likely be Jack Flaherty, who has had a tough start to the season for Detroit.

Saturday’s matchup will feature Rocker, who has begun to find his rhythm after an uneven start. The right-hander is 1–2 with a 3.38 ERA and has delivered back-to-back quality starts, including a strong performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates where he allowed just one run over six innings. However, Rocker’s effectiveness has varied depending on location, as he has been significantly better at home than on the road. Detroit is expected to counter with Keider Montero, who has posted a 4.00 ERA across five starts this season.

The series finale on Sunday will see Leiter take the mound for Texas. The young right-hander has had a challenging stretch, entering the game with a 1–2 record and a 5.17 ERA. He has not recorded a win since his season debut against the Baltimore Orioles and has struggled with consistency, particularly in limiting hard contact and home runs. His most recent outing against the Yankees saw him give up four runs over six innings. Detroit has yet to announce a starter for the finale, as injuries and recent usage have limited their options neither Casey Mize nor Tarik Skubal are expected to be available.

As the Rangers look to climb back above .500, the performance of their starting rotation could play a crucial role in determining whether they can gain momentum during this road trip.
