After recently being designated for assignment, Philadelphia Phillies utility player Dylan Moore has officially cleared waivers and will remain with the organization after being outrighted to Triple-A.
The move comes as the Phillies continue to build momentum during one of their strongest stretches of the season. Philadelphia has gone 8-2 over its last 10 games, highlighted by a sweep of the San Francisco Giants and series victories over both the Miami Marlins and Athletics. With upcoming matchups against the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox, the club has a favorable opportunity to continue climbing back toward the .500 mark.
Roster adjustments have become necessary as several players return from the injured list, leading the Phillies to designate Moore for assignment earlier this week. Given his major league experience and defensive versatility, there was some belief another team might claim him off waivers. Instead, Moore passed through unclaimed and will now continue playing within the Phillies organization at the Triple-A level.
According to reports, Moore had the option to reject the outright assignment and elect free agency because of his MLB service time. However, the veteran chose to stay with the organization. Philadelphia signed him to a contract worth more than $1 million during the offseason, and the team remains responsible for that salary while he remains under contract.
Moore struggled to carve out a consistent role with the major league club this season. He appeared in 13 games but recorded only 15 at-bats, making it difficult to establish any rhythm offensively. Despite his limited playing time, Moore still brings defensive value thanks to his ability to play multiple positions across the infield and outfield.
The lack of interest from other clubs is somewhat surprising considering Moore’s recent résumé. During the previous season, he appeared in 106 games split between the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners and earned a Gold Glove Award in 2024 for his defensive excellence. His versatility and experience have long made him a useful depth piece capable of filling a variety of roles.
Even though he is no longer on the major league roster, Moore’s presence in Triple-A gives Philadelphia experienced depth should injuries or roster needs arise later in the season. Players who can competently handle several positions are valuable over the course of a long campaign, especially for teams hoping to stay competitive deep into the year.
As the Phillies continue pushing to improve their standing, additional roster decisions could still be ahead. While the team has been winning recently, offensive inconsistency remains an issue in certain areas of the lineup. The coaching staff, led by Don Mattingly, may continue experimenting with personnel and lineup adjustments in an effort to sustain the club’s recent success.
