Alexis Lafrenière is targeting a sharper goal-scoring output next season as the New York Rangers winger looks to turn late-season progress into a full breakout in 2026–27.

After finishing the 2025–26 campaign with a career-high 57 points, Lafrenière acknowledged there is still another level to reach in his game. Despite flashes of improvement, the season was widely viewed as inconsistent for the former No. 1 overall pick, who has yet to fully establish himself as a consistent top-line scorer.

A key bright spot came after roster changes that reshaped the team’s top six, giving Lafrenière more responsibility and ice time. Over his final 40 games, he produced 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists), a stretch that projects to a 30+ goal, 70+ point pace over a full season—numbers that hint at his offensive ceiling.

Still, the focus heading into the offseason is clear: scoring more goals, not just accumulating points. Lafrenière emphasized improving his net-front presence, finishing chances in tight areas, and becoming more direct in attack rather than relying heavily on perimeter play or playmaking.

His role is also set to expand. With the Rangers entering a retooling phase and reshuffling their depth chart, Lafrenière is expected to occupy a prominent top-line wing position. That opportunity comes with added pressure, especially after signing a long-term contract worth $7.45 million annually, which runs through 2031–32.

For the Rangers, his development is critical.
