SHOCKWAVES: Phillies’ $100M Ace Nola Under Fire After Rough Start to Season

The Philadelphia Phillies opened their series against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada on Monday night, picking up a 5–2 victory to continue a solid stretch of play this season.

However, attention remains on one of their highest-paid starters, Aaron Nola, who is still under a massive contract worth over $100 million despite ongoing struggles on the mound.

Big start for Aaron Nola tonight trying to win the series against the best team in baseball in Milwaukee. The Phillies have won all three of Nola's starts since he came back

Nola has had a difficult 2026 campaign so far, posting a 3–4 record with a 5.86 ERA through 13 appearances. In his most recent outing, he lasted just 4.1 innings while allowing five earned runs, further fueling concern about his consistency.

Once a cornerstone of the Phillies’ rotation, Nola was selected in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft and has spent his entire career in Philadelphia. His best season came in 2018 when he earned his lone All-Star selection after going 17–6 with a 2.37 ERA.

Despite his current struggles, Nola has built an impressive career overall, compiling a 112–93 record with a 3.90 ERA across nearly 300 appearances.

Still, frustration among fans has grown, with many taking to social media to criticize his recent performances and the size of his contract, questioning whether he can still perform at an elite level.

Meanwhile, the Phillies continue to perform well as a team, sitting second in the National League East with a 36–30 record. They have won seven of their last ten games and remain competitive both at home and on the road as they push through the season.
