The New York Yankees continued their dominant stretch Tuesday night with a 7-4 victory over the Texas Rangers in the Bronx but the biggest moment of the game belonged to veteran slugger Paul Goldschmidt.

The former MVP delivered another impactful performance, collecting two hits and launching a home run that carried far more significance than just adding to New York’s offensive outburst. With the blast, Goldschmidt recorded the 374th home run of his career, moving into a tie with Manny Machado and Hall of Fame slugger Rocky Colavito for 82nd place on Major League Baseball’s all-time home run list.
At 38 years old, Goldschmidt may no longer be in the peak years that once made him one of baseball’s most feared hitters, but he continues to prove he can still play an important role on a championship-caliber roster.
While his numbers are no longer overwhelming, his value to the Yankees goes beyond star power. Goldschmidt remains a steady veteran presence, a reliable defender, and a productive bat capable of delivering in key moments. After batting .274 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs last season, he has embraced a different stage of his career one built around leadership, depth, and timely production.
That transition has quietly become an important asset for New York.
Goldschmidt’s path to baseball history has been defined by remarkable consistency. Drafted in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB Draft, he rose to stardom with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he developed into one of the league’s premier hitters and earned six consecutive All-Star selections between 2013 and 2018. During his tenure in Arizona, he hit .297 across more than 1,000 games and established himself as the face of the franchise.
His success continued with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he added another All-Star appearance and captured the 2022 National League MVP award, further strengthening his Hall of Fame résumé.
Yet despite all the individual accomplishments, one major piece is still missing from Goldschmidt’s legacy a World Series title.
That’s part of what makes his current chapter with the Yankees so compelling.
New York has emerged as one of baseball’s hottest teams, winning 15 of its last 17 games while taking control of first place in the AL East with a 25-11 record. The Yankees have also turned Yankee Stadium into a fortress, posting a dominant 13-5 mark at home.
With the team surging and October expectations growing stronger, Goldschmidt’s experience and postseason hunger could become increasingly valuable as the season progresses. And as he continues climbing baseball’s all-time leaderboards, every swing now carries a little extra historical weight.
