A fresh start appears increasingly likely for former Kansas State Wildcats forward Elias Rapieque after he officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the final player from last season’s roster to move on during a sweeping offseason reset under new head coach Casey Alexander.

Rapieque’s decision came just before the April 21 transfer portal deadline, signaling a firm commitment to explore opportunities elsewhere with no reported hesitation. The 22-year-old German power forward departs after a challenging lone season in Manhattan that featured significant instability within the program. He began the year under former head coach Jerome Tang, but following Tang’s midseason dismissal, Rapieque finished the campaign under interim coach Matthew Driscoll before the program ultimately turned to Alexander to lead a rebuild.
Statistically, Rapieque played a limited but steady role, averaging 3.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in about 15 minutes per game while shooting 46 percent from the field. While those numbers don’t jump off the page, they reflect a player who contributed efficiently to a rotational role, showing flashes of versatility as a forward capable of defending multiple positions and moving the ball offensively. With one year of eligibility remaining, he now has the opportunity to seek a system that better maximizes his skill set and playing time.
His exit also reflects broader roster turnover at Kansas State, particularly in the frontcourt. The Wildcats have aggressively added size and depth through the portal, bringing in forwards from programs like Georgetown, Oregon, and Miami. That influx of experienced talent would have made minutes harder to come by, likely influencing Rapieque’s decision to leave in search of a clearer path to consistent playing time.
At the same time, his departure opens opportunities for both incoming transfers and future recruits, including younger players expected to step into larger roles as the program reshapes its identity. Around the country, other former Wildcats have already secured Power Four destinations some staying within major conferences highlighting a trend that Rapieque could follow as he evaluates his options.
Looking ahead, Rapieque is expected to attract interest from a wide range of programs. Power conference teams in need of depth and experience could view him as a reliable rotational piece, while mid-major programs may offer a more prominent role and increased usage. Schools undergoing coaching transitions or roster rebuilds could be especially appealing fits, as they often provide immediate opportunities for impact players.
At this stage, no specific destination has emerged as a frontrunner, but Rapieque’s combination of size, experience, and untapped upside gives him flexibility in choosing his next move. Ultimately, his transfer represents both a personal reset and a continuation of Kansas State’s broader roster overhaul one that could position both player and program for different, potentially more successful paths moving forward.
