The New York Mets could be forced to consider a managerial change if their struggles continue, putting Carlos Mendoza firmly on the hot seat. While the team’s poor performance isn’t solely his fault, a disastrous 7–15 start along with an 11-game losing streak and a 45–70 record dating back to mid-2025 has raised serious concerns about his future.
If the Mets decide to move on during the season, a few internal and familiar names stand out as possible replacements.
One option is Andy Green, the organization’s senior vice president of baseball development. A former manager of the San Diego Padres, Green has major league experience and has played a key role in improving the Mets’ minor league system. His background could make him a logical candidate for another shot in the dugout.
Another possibility is current bench coach Kai Correa, who is widely regarded as an up-and-coming figure in the game. Teams often turn to their bench coach as an interim manager during the season, and Correa’s defensive expertise and prior experience with the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Guardians strengthen his case.
A more unconventional option would be Mets legend Carlos Beltrán, who now serves as a special assistant. Although he was once hired to manage the team before stepping aside due to the Astros sign-stealing scandal, bringing him in midseason would be unexpected especially with plans already in place to honor him later this year.
Ultimately, if the Mets’ downward trend continues, the organization may feel compelled to make a change, with several intriguing candidates waiting in the wings.
